Ocoa preparations, March 26, 2015

The date is fast approaching when we will be leaving on our trip to the Dominican Republic.  The students have been preparing in anticipation for what has become an annual "field trip" where learning in the profession of Healthcare is put into action.

Excitement is growing: vaccinations have been acquired, equipment is being readied, supplies are being collected....lots more to do, but we are on it!

We are been treated to student presentations tailored to fit the topic of health in the Dominican: yesterday we learned about cholera and malaria, especially with reference to the D.R.:

These presentations are helping to remind us that we will be leaving soon and there is lots of stuff yet to do.  Next week there will be two more as students help to turn their experience in preparation for the trip into great learning opportunities....congratulations everyone.

We also learned a bit about the history of the island, and got a chance to situate the locale where we will be going in the D.R.:

The red dots show three of the villages we will be travelling to once we have arrive at our home base in San Jose de Ocoa. Stay tuned - lots of pictures and stories to share!

A HUGE thank-you to Debbie and Danielle who, although they are not going on the trip, have been truly dedicated to helping in the planing and organization of the adventure: we would be lost without them....THANK-YOU to you both!!

It is amazing and inspiring to see the dedication and professionalism of the teachers at CVCEC!

Till next post.....
